Atlanta Fed president highlights uncertainty and inflation focus
Investing.com -- Raphael Bostic, President of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, recently highlighted the broadening degree of uncertainty in current economic conditions. He emphasized that tariffs add another layer of uncertainty, making it challenging to incorporate into economic forecasting and decision-making processes.
Given the rapid changes in economic conditions, Bostic stressed the importance of engaging with business contacts and considering various potential outcomes. He underscored the need for the Federal Reserve to maintain an understanding of how businesses and families might react to these changing conditions.
Bostic also emphasized that the Federal Reserve's focus remains on inflation. He stated that it is crucial for the institution's credibility to reach a 2% inflation target.
In addition, Bostic pointed out that the U.S. labor market can tolerate much tighter conditions than previously understood. This suggests the potential for further reductions in unemployment without triggering inflation.
Lastly, Bostic's outlook is for inflation to continue falling. This viewpoint indicates that the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta anticipates a continued trend of low inflation.
