Atlanta Fed president Bostic to retire when term ends in February 2026

Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta President Raphael Bostic announced he will retire when his current term concludes on February 28, 2026, according to a statement from the regional Fed bank.

Bostic has served as the Atlanta Fed's president and chief executive officer since June 5, 2017. He is the first African American and openly gay president of a regional Federal Reserve Bank in the system's 111-year history.

"It's been my distinct honor and privilege to lead the Atlanta Fed for these past eight and a half years," Bostic said in the statement. "I'm proud of what we accomplished during my tenure to turn the lofty goal of an economy that works for everyone into more of a reality."

As Atlanta Fed president, Bostic oversees the bank's activities including monetary policy, bank supervision, and payment services. He serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, which sets U.S. monetary policy.

Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell said Bostic's perspective "has enriched the Federal Open Market Committee's understanding of our dynamic economy" and praised his leadership.

The Atlanta Fed's board of directors will form a search committee to conduct a nationwide search for Bostic's replacement. The committee will comprise non-banking members of the Atlanta Fed's board of directors, following Federal Reserve policies and the Federal Reserve Act.

If a successor is not appointed by February 28, 2026, first vice president and chief operating officer Cheryl Venable will assume presidential duties on an interim basis under Section 4 of the Federal Reserve Act.

The Atlanta Fed serves the Sixth Federal Reserve District, which includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, and parts of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Tennessee.
