Quantum BioPharma gets FDA clearance for MS drug trial

Quantum BioPharma Ltd. (NASDAQ: QNTM) has received FDA clearance to begin a phase 2 clinical trial of Lucid-MS, a drug candidate targeting multiple sclerosis, according to a company statement.

Lucid-MS is described as a patented drug candidate designed to protect and potentially repair the myelin sheath, the protective coating on nerve fibers that is damaged in MS patients. The company claims the mechanism differs from existing MS treatments, which focus on modulating the immune system rather than addressing myelin directly.

According to the company, this would be the first time a drug candidate built on this specific mechanism has been tested in human subjects with MS. The phase 2 trial clearance marks a regulatory step forward for the compound, which has previously been tested only in preclinical models.

Nearly one million people in the United States and approximately 2.9 million people worldwide are estimated to live with MS, a disease that can progressively affect mobility, vision, and bodily control.

Quantum BioPharma is a biopharmaceutical company focused on treatments for neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders. Its subsidiary, Lucid Psycheceuticals Inc., leads the development of Lucid-MS. The company also retains a 19.84% stake in Unbuzzd Wellness Inc. as of March 31, 2026, along with royalty rights tied to that arrangement.
