Eli Lilly and Company (NYSE: LLY) announced results from a four-year study of its ulcerative colitis treatment Omvoh, showing sustained remission rates among patients who achieved clinical remission at one year.

The LUCENT-3 Phase 3 open-label extension study tracked patients who had achieved clinical remission with Omvoh at one year in the earlier LUCENT-2 study. After four years of total treatment, 78% of these patients maintained corticosteroid-free clinical remission and 78% sustained long-term clinical remission.

Additional outcomes at four years included 81% achieving sustained endoscopic remission, 90% achieving remission on the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Questionnaire, and 66% achieving histological-endoscopic mucosal improvement. The study also found that 93% of patients achieved a 3 or more-point reduction on the Urgency Numeric Rating Scale.

The data covers 27% of patients who had previously failed a biologic or advanced therapy. Safety results showed that 12% of patients reported a serious adverse event and 7% discontinued treatment due to an adverse event.

Omvoh is an interleukin-23p19 antagonist approved for moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease in adults. The drug has received regulatory approvals in 44 countries.

The results were presented at United European Gastroenterology Week in Berlin. The study represents the final results from the LUCENT-3 extension study, according to the company's press release.
