Watch These Seven Items for the Day Ahead
Market strategists at Nomura, including Rohit Garg, note that investors should keep they eye on these seven items for the day ahead:
- Ireland: European parliamentary and local elections.
- Spain: BdE Governor Linde speaks on banking union at Expansión event in Madrid.
- ECB publishes 3yr LTRO repayment amount for the following week.
- Spain Economy Minister de Guindos speaks in Madrid.
- Germany FM Schäuble speaks at CDU party event in Hofstetten.
- US New home sales: Lagged effects from the weather and ongoing supply and affordability issues likely prompted the sharp drop in new home sales in March. Mortgage applications for home purchases increased in April, but the current sales of single family homes sub-index within the survey declined in April, suggesting that there probably was little improvement in new home sales in April. We expect new home sales to increase by 6.8% to an annualized rate of 410k (Consensus: 425k; Previous: 384k).
- Canada CPI in April (Consensus: 2.0% y-o-y; Nomura: 2.1%; Previous: 1.5%).
- Canada Core CPI in April (Consensus: 1.4% y-o-y; Nomura: 1.4%; Previous: 1.3%).
