Traders Cheer Applied Materials' (AMAT) Q3 Results, Q4 Outlook

Shares of Applied Materials (Nasdaq: AMAT) are trading slightly higher in this evening's after-hours session following better-than-expected quarterly results. The stock most recently traded at $13.67, up more than 3% from today's closing price.
Applied Materials reported breakeven Q3 earnings, topping the Street's consensus estimate by 8 cents. Sales for the quarter came in at $1.13 billion, down about 39% from the same quarter last year, but better than the $958 million analysts had been looking for.
On AMAT's conference call, execs said its sees Q4 sales up 10-20% from Q3 and Q4 EPS $0.00-$0.04, both of which are well ahead of the Street's current estimates.
