Keycorp. (NYSE: KEY) is trading a little lower today, following a first-quarter earnings beat from the regional banking giant.
Net income was $173 million in the quarter, or $0.21 per share, swinging into positive territory from a loss of $96 million in Q110.
Revenue was $1.061 billion, lower than $1.08 billion reported in the same period last year.
Overall, the Street was looking for EPS of $0.14 on revenues of $1.08 billion.
Keycorp.'s estimated Tier 1 common equity and Tier 1 risk-based capital ratios were 10.70% and 13.44%, compared to 9.34% and 15.16%, respectively, at December 31, 2010.
Net loan charge-offs fell from $522 million to $193 million in the quarter, while the allowance for credit losses fell from $2.544 billion to $1.441 billion.
Keycorp. said that it plans to build 40 new branches in 2011.
Keycorp. is 3.2 percent lower this morning.
