Exide Technologies (XIDE) Reports a Q1 Loss

Exide Technologies (NASDAQ: XIDE) reported Q1 EPS of ($1.38) vs. analyst estimate of $0.01 (Not comparable). Revenue for the quarter came in at $693.4 million versus the consensus estimate of $736.78 million.

(With the decline in profitability of the Americas business, the evaluation of our deferred tax asset in the United States has resulted in the establishment of a valuation allowance in the amount of $87.6 million or ($1.14) per share, in the fiscal 2013 first quarter. This non-cash charge when coupled with the difficult operating environment resulted in a net loss for the quarter of $106.5 million or ($1.38) per share compared with the prior year net loss of $5.2 million or ($0.07) per share_
