Shares of American Express (NYSE: AXP) are trading 4% lower in this evening's after-hours session following the credit card company's Q2 results. The stock most recently traded at $28.10.
AmEx reported quarterly EPS from continuing operations of $0.27, just beating the Street's $0.26 estimate. Sales fell 18% during the quarter, from $7.46 billion in Q208 to $6.09 billion this year.
Taking a look at a few other metrics, AmEx reported consolidated provisions for losses of $1.6 billion, down slightly from the $1.8 billion reported in the same quarter last year. Also, return on equity was 13.2%, down from 31.1% in Q208.
