Alleghany Corp. (Y) Tops Q3 EPS Expectations

Alleghany Corp. (NYSE: Y) reported Q3 EPS of $11.40, $3.80 better than the analyst estimate of $7.60. Revenue for the quarter came in at $1.14 billion versus the consensus estimate of $1.08 billion.

Book value per common share1 grew to $456.10 as of September 30, 2014, an increase of 10.4% from book value per common share of $412.96 at 2013 year-end and 1.0% from book value per common share of $451.65 at June 30, 2014. Total stockholders’ equity2 increased to $7.4 billion as of September 30, 2014 from approximately $6.9 billion as of December 31, 2013.
