Alcoa (AA) Trades Higher Into Q213 Report

July 8, 2013 12:04 PM EDT
Alcoa (NYSE: AA) is up in higher-volume trading Monday as the aluminum giant looks to kick off (unofficially) second-quarter 2013 earnings season.

Last week, it was noted that EPS growth at Alcoa could be 50 percent or more, though revenue is expected to be flat.

Since at least 2011, however, the influence of Alcoa has waned. From 2002 through 2010, the S&P 500 generally rose 2.5 percent when Alcoa beat and less when it didn't. Since 2011, the S&P 500 has gained 3 percent even on an Alcoa miss.

Short interest on Alcoa into results is 93.29 million shares, or 8.7 percent of total outstanding common. Money flow is positive $1.73 million, with an uptick-to-downtick ratio at 1.25 times.

Shares of Alcoa are up 0.9 percent.
