U.S. Announces Tariffs Against China for IP Theft
As expected, the Trump administration announced tariffs against China Thursday afternoon. The U.S. will impose $50 billion in annual tariffs on imports from China for years of theft of intellectual property. Trump said the tariffs could be as much as $60 billion.
Tariffs will be published within 15 days. This will be followed by 30 days for a public comment period before they take effect.
Trump also asked representatives to pursue a dispute settlement at WTO to address China's licensing practices.
The Treasury Department was directed to consider expanding limits on Chinese investment and acquisitions in the U.S. beyond CFIUS's current reach.
