While markets might be just about flat in 2014 so far, one noted investor sees bleaker conditions for the rest of the year.
The WSJ reported on Tuesday that George Soros doubled his bet on the S&P moving lower. Recent SEC filings show that Soros doubled put options linked to the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE: SPY) ETF, moving from 2.8 million at the end of Q313 up to 7.1 million as the end of December 2013.
The S&P 500 ended 2013 up 30 percent on the year, having a spectacular run in the fourth-quarter too boot.
In the last quarter of 2013, Soros reported that the value of his holdings moved from $9.1 billion up to $11.8 billion. It wasn't made clear whether Soros had increased or decreased his bearish bet on the S&P 500 through the first month-and-a-half of 2014.
