iShares Nasdaq Biotechnology ETF (Nasdaq: IBB) gained 0.85 percent to 144.85. Shares of Gilead Sciences (Nasdaq: GILD) gained 2.5 percent as investors increased their appetite for the drug maker. Shares of GILD are higher for the second day in a row following an analyst upgrade yesterday by Bernstein. IBB continues to show strong performance, adding to year-to-date gains of 37 percent.

Market Vectors Gold Miners ETF (NYSE: GDX) declined 1.2 percent to 53.37. Shares of AngloGold Ashanti Ltd. (NYSE: AU) declined 2 percent as investors trimmed position in gold-related assets. In the past 90-days, GDX is higher by 19 percent. Traders noted resistance as prices near 55.
Materials Select Sector SPDR (XLB) declined 0.8 percent to 36.60. Shares of the Mosaic Company (NYSE: MOS) declined after the company reported Q1 earnings that missed street estimates. Mosaic has a 4 percent weighting in XLB.
