Markets Higher In Europe After ECB Decision
Vanguard MSCI Europe ETF (NYSE: VGK) opened higher on Wednesday as markets in Europe recovered. The FTSE 100, DAX, and CAC 40 indexes all moved higher in European trading, paring losing suffered early in the week. The ECB left rates unchanged at 1 percent, but some investors were disappointed as they opted not to take aggressive moves to ease ahead of schedule.
During a news conference, ECB President Mario Draghi acknowledged downside risk to economies in Europe and a likely decline of inflation. The ECB also extended a program that provides 3 month lending to banks, but made no other changes to the program.
