Bonds Rally Amid Flight to Safety; Insurance Stocks Lag (MET) (LNC) (TLT)

Bonds were in focus Tuesday as yields on 10-year U.S. treasuries touched 1.94%, their lowest level since October. Global bonds posted even larger gains, with yields in Japan and Germany at record lows.
The flight to safety caused broad weakness in financials and insurance stocks like Lincoln National (NYSE: LNC), MetLife, Inc. (NYSE: MET), and Principal Financial Group Inc. (NYSE: PFG).
Meanwhile, gold stocks outperformed, led by Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM), Yamana (NYSE: AUY), Barrick Gold (NYSE: ABX), and Silver Wheaon (NYSE: SLW).
SPDR Gold Shares (NYSE: GLD) advanced 1%. iShares 20+ Year Treasury Bond (NYSE: TLT) gained 1.7%.
