The Best Dividend Stock You've Never Heard Of...

What if we told you could get a 3.7 percent dividend yield from a company which raised its dividend every year for at least 25 years, has stable profits, and has a steadily rising stock price...?

If we told you about such a stock you'd probably think we were crazy. But we've found such a company: WGL Holdings Inc. (NYSE: WGL)

WGL sells and delivers natural gas and provides energy-related products and services primarily in the District of Columbia and the surrounding metropolitan areas in Maryland and Virginia. The core subsidiary is regulated public utility Washington Gas.

The company is paying a dividend of $1.55 per share on an annual basis, with earnings of $2.28 per share. The payout ratio on the dividend is high at 68 percent but being a regulated public utility where profits are consistent, there is still plenty of room to give shareholders comfort.

WGL usually raises its dividend with the year’s first declaration. We'll be looking for an announcement of another hike in March.

WGL is pretty much a no brainer for investors looking to add some stability to their portfolio.
