Strategy Inc. is officially back in the Bitcoin buying business

August 31, 2026 8:39 AM EDT

Investing.com -- Ending an unprecedented ten-week selling streak, the world’s largest corporate crypto holder snapped up 4,603 Bitcoin between August 24 and 30 for $369.7 million. The aggressive move—funded by fresh at-the-market equity sales—was telegraphed Sunday by Executive Chairman Michael Saylor, who posted a simple "We’re ₿ack" to social media.

With Bitcoin last trading at $78,280, Strategy paid a slight premium to the current spot market, securing its latest tranche at an average of $80,318 per coin. Investors weighed the symbolic weight of this return to accumulation, sending Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR) shares up between 1% and 2% in pre-market trading ahead of Monday’s NYSE open.

The Balance Sheet Snapshot

Clearing the Narrative Overhang

  • Total Holdings: 845,050 BTC (still trailing the June 21 peak of 847,363 BTC)

  • Total Cost Basis: $63.73 billion

  • Blended Average Price: $75,412 per coin

  • Recent Funding: $602.8 million raised via 4.53 million Class A shares ($369.7M deployed to BTC)

The road back to accumulation was anything but linear. On June 29, 2026, Strategy’s board shocked the market by approving a Digital Credit Capital Framework, authorizing selective BTC sales for the first time in company history.

Over the following ten weeks, the company unloaded 6,948 BTC for $432.5 million to fund preferred-stock dividends and STRC share repurchases. While Bitfinex analysts noted that the disposal was a "rounding error" against daily spot volumes, it cast a heavy psychological shadow. The reality that the market’s most famously diamond-handed corporate whale was selling became a persistent bearish talking point throughout the summer.

That overhang began to clear during a two-week pause in sales late in August, setting the stage for Monday’s SEC 8-K filing and another post on X by Saylor today confirming the massive Bitcoin purchases.
