SEC plans crypto investment regime and tokenized stock exemption - Bloomberg
The Securities and Exchange Commission is preparing to announce two significant crypto-related initiatives, according to a Bloomberg report citing people familiar with the agency's plans.
The SEC has announced it will hold an open meeting to establish what it described as "a tailored offering regime for certain investment contracts involving crypto assets."
The agency is also working on an innovation exemption for trading digital versions of securities, known as tokenized stocks, which could allow around-the-clock trading of stock tokens on blockchain networks. Details of that exemption could be released as soon as Friday, according to anonymous sources cited by Bloomberg.
SEC officials are still working on the proposal and details could change before it is released, the sources said.
The developments come as the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act, a legislative effort to establish a broader regulatory framework for cryptocurrencies, has stalled in Congress.
