T-Mobile Leads in Wireless Additions During Q2 - Fitch

T-Mobile (NYSE: TMUS) added approximately 1.13 million wireless customers during the second quarter of 2013, edging out Verizon Wireless (NYSE: VZ), which added approximately 1 million subscribers, for the industry lead. Overall, wireless net additions among the four largest wireless service providers plunged 70% during the second quarter of 2013 versus last year to 766,000.

Fitch estimates that the largest video service providers lost approximately 337,000 video subscribers during the seasonally weak second quarter of 2013, but the losses were in line with the 347,000 video subscribers lost during the same period last year. Additionally, Fitch believes that the largest multichannel video programming distributors (MVPDs) lost approximately 46,000 video customers during the trailing 12-month period ended June 30, 2013.

Fitch's special report 'U.S. Communications Industry Leaders Competitive Scorecard' discusses trends in the 2Q'13 regarding the scope and depth of the competitive overlap of leading telecommunications operators. The report compares the competitive positions of the leading local exchange carriers (LEC), cable multiple system operators (MSOs), wireless service providers and direct broadcast satellite (DBS) operators. The report also summarizes key operating metrics financial statistics, particularly related to key forecast items such as revenue growth, margin changes, capital re-investment and debt. Additionally, the report includes summary comments concerning key developments in the quarter.
