Walt Disney (DIS): Disney+ Available for $1.99/Month For a Limited Period

November 8, 2021 6:43 AM EST

Walt Disney (NYSE: DIS) said its Disney+ streaming service will be available for just $1.99/month for a limited period as the company attempts to halt the slowdown in subscriber additions.

The entertainment giant said the special deal will begin today and last until November 14, eligible for both new and returning customers. This way, Disney is celebrating the two-year anniversary of its streaming service.

"Since launching two years ago, Disney+ has captured the hearts and imaginations of audiences around the world with its best-in-class originals and robust library of beloved films and series. With Disney+ Day, we are creating an unparalleled experience for our subscribers as only The Walt Disney Company can,” Kareem Daniel, the chairman of Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution.

The company is charging $7.99 per month for its streaming business in the US. In August, Disney reported 116 million subscribers for its Disney+ business and 174 million subs across all of its platforms.

Shares are up nearly 1% in pre-open Monday as the company prepares to report earnings Wednesday.
