Walmart launches nationwide delivery of refrigerated prescriptions

Walmart Inc. (NYSE: WMT) has expanded its same-day pharmacy delivery service to include refrigerated and reconstituted medications across the United States. The service now covers insulin, GLP-1 medications, and pediatric antibiotics like amoxicillin.

The retailer states it is the first to offer cold-chain prescriptions alongside groceries and everyday essentials in a single online order. Refrigerated medications represent over 30% of Walmart Pharmacy sales, according to the company.

Walmart launched its pharmacy delivery pilot one year ago and expanded it chainwide eight months later. The company reports fulfilling over 4 million pharmacy delivery orders to date, with the fastest delivery completed in nine minutes.

"We continue to unlock new levels of convenience while also broadening access to critical medications," said Kevin Host, senior vice president of Pharmacy at Walmart. "Adding refrigerated prescriptions to our Pharmacy Delivery capabilities is the result of listening to our customers, identifying where we can create even better, seamless experiences."

The service uses insulated packaging to maintain regulated temperatures and light-blocking materials to protect sensitive medications. Customers can track orders through the Walmart app and must provide electronic signatures upon delivery.

Walmart+ members receive free pharmacy delivery where available, while non-members pay delivery fees based on their selected service option. The company operates more than 10,750 stores across 19 countries and employs approximately 2.1 million associates worldwide.

The expansion allows customers to order medications alongside other household items, eliminating separate trips to physical store locations for prescription pickups.
