VolitionRx joins €6.3M French sepsis detection program

VolitionRx Limited (NYSE American: VNRX) has shared details about its participation in the DETECSEPS program, a government-funded initiative in France focused on the early detection of sepsis in emergency department patients.

The program, which received €6.3 million (~$7.3 million) in funding, is part of France's 2030 plan and was selected through a "Challenge Prevention" call for proposals by the French Health Innovation Agency. The DETECSEPS Consortium includes AP-HP, Hospices Civils de Lyon, IDS France, and Volition.

The program aims to identify, upon arrival at the emergency department, which patients with suspected infection are at risk of developing sepsis and which can be safely sent home. The strategy combines three elements: the National Early Warning Score 2 clinical assessment, Volition's Nu.Q® NETs H3.1 blood biomarker, and the IDS i10 automated analyzer from IDS France.

The program will evaluate this approach in 1,000 patients across real-life care settings, including emergency departments at Bichat-Claude-Bernard and Ambroise Paré AP-HP hospitals.

The consortium was initiated by IHU Sepsis, directed by Professor Djillali Annane of Raymond-Poincaré Hospital AP-HP. Volition is providing its Nu.Q® H3.1 assay to the program at no cost.

According to a 2025 study published in The Lancet Global Health, sepsis is estimated to be responsible for 21 million deaths per year worldwide.
