Uber Technologies Inc. (NYSE: UBER) announced a strategic partnership with Flytrex Inc. to launch drone delivery services, marking the company's first investment in drone technology.

The service is expected to begin with Uber Eats pilot markets in the United States by the end of the year. The partnership combines Flytrex's autonomous drone delivery system with Uber's platform and logistics operations.

Flytrex is one of four drone delivery providers authorized by the Federal Aviation Administration for Beyond Visual Line of Sight operations. The company has completed over 200,000 deliveries across the United States in the past three years.

"Autonomous technology is transforming mobility and delivery faster than ever before," said Sarfraz Maredia, President of Autonomous Mobility and Delivery at Uber. "With Flytrex, we're entering the next chapter—bringing the speed and sustainability of drone delivery to the Uber Eats platform, at scale, for the first time."

Noam Bardin, Executive Chairman of Flytrex, stated that autonomous drones represent the future of food delivery. "Flytrex has already delivered over 200,000 meals to suburban households in the past three years," Bardin said.

The partnership expands Uber's delivery network beyond ground-based transportation methods to include aerial delivery. Flytrex operates with FAA-certified safety standards and has demonstrated that its drones can share airspace with manned aircraft.

As part of the relationship, Uber is making an investment in Flytrex to accelerate development and deployment of drone delivery technology, according to the companies' joint announcement.
