TDK Ventures invests in Aston Power for AI data center energy
TDK Corporation's (TSE: 6762) corporate venture capital arm, TDK Ventures, has made an investment in Aston Power, a Raleigh, North Carolina-based startup that deploys private power networks for large industrial power users, including AI data centers.
Aston Power, founded in 2022, operates a software-defined platform that combines solar, batteries, and natural gas assets managed in real time. The company claims its platform can deliver utility-grade power in two to three years, compared to traditional grid interconnection timelines of five to ten years. The system is designed to guarantee 99.9% availability at the substation level.
Aston Power has a development pipeline representing 2 gigawatts of power, with initial campuses planned in Arizona, Texas, and New Mexico.
"The AI boom is pushing the current grid paradigm to the brink," said Nicolas Sauvage, President at TDK Ventures. "We invested in Aston Power because they provide the 'hard trifecta' of hyperscaler's demand: speed to power, grid-like reliability, and acceptable cost—all backed by a formal, enforceable Service Level Agreement."
Greg Robinson, Co-founder and CEO of Aston Power, said the partnership gives the company access to TDK's power electronics value chain, including sensors, energy storage, and passive components, as well as TDK's global commercial network.
The investment amount was not disclosed. TDK Ventures was established in 2019 as a wholly owned subsidiary of TDK Corporation, which reported total sales of $16.6 billion in fiscal 2026.
