Southern Company names new finance leaders

Southern Company (NYSE: SO) announced two leadership appointments in its finance organization effective July 31, according to a company statement.

Matt Kim, currently senior vice president of finance and treasurer, will become senior vice president, comptroller, and chief accounting officer. In this role, Kim will oversee accounting policy and research, external financial reporting, payroll, and accounts payable functions, along with accounting controls and related processes.

Aaron Abramovitz, executive vice president, CFO, and treasurer of Georgia Power Company, will assume the role of senior vice president of finance and treasurer for Southern Company. His responsibilities will include leading treasury and financial planning teams, overseeing the company's financial plan and budget, and managing financing and cash operations. Abramovitz will also supervise investor relations activities.

Kim has served in various senior vice president roles within Southern Company's finance organization since 2022, with responsibilities spanning treasury, financial planning, business development, risk management, and trust finance. He previously held the position of vice president and controller at Southern Company Gas.

Abramovitz brings 23 years of experience across Southern Company and its subsidiaries' finance and project management organizations. His background includes serving as director of investor relations for Southern Company and vice president of business operations for Southern Nuclear before his current role at Georgia Power Company.

The appointments come as part of organizational changes within the Atlanta-based energy company, which serves 9 million customers across the Southeast through its family of companies.
