SS Innovations completes intercontinental robotic cardiac telesurgery

SS Innovations International Inc. (NASDAQ: SSII) announced that its CEO Dr. Sudhir Srivastava completed a robotic cardiac procedure on July 19 from Strasbourg, France, operating on a patient in Indore, India, at a distance exceeding 4,000 miles.
The procedure, described as an intercontinental robotic cardiac telesurgery, involved closing an atrial septal defect using the company's SSi Mantra 3 surgical robotic system. Dr. Srivastava operated remotely from the Institute of Research Against Digestive Cancer headquarters during the Society of Robotic Surgery Annual Meeting.
Patient-side support in India was provided by Dr. Lalit Malik from Manipal Hospital Jaipur, Dr. Ram Krishna Shukla and Dr. Bipin Arya from Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences, along with support teams. The procedure was moderated by Dr. Husam H. Balkhy from the University of Chicago Medicine.
According to the company's press release, the surgery was completed without technical issues. SS Innovations stated it has regulatory approval from India's Central Drugs Standard Control Organization for both teleproctoring and telesurgery.
The company reported that 35 telesurgeries, including 10 cardiac procedures, have been performed using its SSi Mantra system. The company also stated that over 5,000 multi-specialty surgeries have been conducted with the system without device-related adverse events.
SS Innovations develops surgical robotic technologies and is headquartered in India. The company's product range includes the SSi Mantra surgical robotic system and SSi Mudra surgical instruments for various procedures including robotic cardiac surgery.
