Orion Energy Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: OESX) announced it secured its first customer deployment for its MPHL2 LED lighting solution at a data center facility. The company said the initial order covers a single location with expectations for expansion over the coming months and years.

The MPHL2 product was introduced to the market several weeks ago and is manufactured in Wisconsin. The linear lighting fixture is designed specifically for data center architecture and floor plans, according to the company's press release.

Michael Ontrop, Orion's senior vice president of channel sales, said the company partnered with data center customers to support energy efficiency needs. Chief Executive Officer Sally Washlow described the deployment as a milestone for the company.

The lighting solution was developed through partnerships with Orion's channel partners to meet hyperscale data center requirements. The company stated the customizable product can be integrated at data centers and offers cost savings through efficiency improvements.

Orion cited industry data indicating approximately 3,000 new data centers are planned in the United States. ABI Research expects more than 10,000 data centers to be operational by 2030, with 2,000 additional facilities coming online by 2035, driven by demand for artificial intelligence and cloud computing.

The Manitowoc, Wisconsin-based company provides LED lighting, electric vehicle charging stations and maintenance services. Orion specializes in turnkey design-through-installation solutions for large customers and projects through ESCO and distribution partners.
