Nidec establishes investigation committee over quality issues
Nidec Corporation announced the discovery of potential quality issues in certain products manufactured by the company and its subsidiaries, including unauthorized changes to materials, processes and designs without customer verification.
The Japanese motor manufacturer identified these issues through a comprehensive quality inspection that included employee interviews at production sites, cross-referencing of records related to process and design changes, and establishing a whistleblower hotline for employees to report quality management concerns.
The company stated that no issues immediately affecting product functionality or safety have been identified at this time. Nidec has begun contacting customers of affected products to provide explanations about the identified issues.
The company established an Investigation Committee composed of external experts to conduct an objective investigation into the matter. The committee will work to clarify facts, identify root causes, and consider remedial measures. Nidec also plans to launch an "Improvement Promotion Office" to ensure communication with customers and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
The quality issues were discovered through work led by the company's Reform Committee. Nidec said it will continue responding to identified product issues, including technical verification and improvement, and will review its internal quality management systems.
The company indicated it will fully cooperate with the Investigation Committee's work while implementing its own improvement measures in parallel with the external investigation.
