Niagen Bioscience Inc. (NASDAQ: NAGE) announced that its external research program has surpassed 300 material transfer agreements with investigators and research institutions worldwide. The program has contributed to 45 published clinical studies on the company's patented nicotinamide riboside ingredient, Niagen.

The research program now includes agreements with more than 200 institutions across 34 countries and has contributed to more than 225 peer-reviewed publications. Niagen Bioscience estimates the program has generated more than $200 million in third-party research value or funding.

"Reaching more than 300 MTAs reflects the growing scientific momentum behind our patented nicotinamide riboside (NR) ingredient, Niagen," said Rob Fried, CEO of Niagen Bioscience. "This program has contributed to 45 published clinical studies, making Niagen the most extensively researched patented NAD-boosting ingredient in the world."

According to the company, over 90% of the clinical studies were investigator-initiated and third-party funded. Recent notable studies include research on long COVID, ataxia telangiectasia, and anti-inflammatory effects. The ataxia telangiectasia research helped Niagen Bioscience receive FDA Orphan Drug and Rare Pediatric Disease designations for NR treatment of the condition.

Third-party investigators from institutions including the National Institutes of Health, Mayo Clinic, Harvard University, and Cambridge University have participated in the program. Ongoing studies are examining areas including cardiovascular health, inflammatory bowel disease, and maternal health applications.

The program has also resulted in a patent portfolio of over 50 granted patents related to Niagen and other NAD+ precursors. The company expects the program to continue expanding into new therapeutic areas and delivery methods, including topical applications and intravenous administration.
