Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to handle tasks and long-term goals on behalf of users, according to a company press release. The product is rolling out in the United States on iOS, Android, and muse.ai, with availability on AI glasses planned for a later date.
Muse runs on a dedicated cloud-based system called Muse Secure VM, which stores user data and credentials. A separate process called Sentinel monitors all outbound activity and must approve any action before it reaches the internet. The agent is powered by Muse Spark, described by Meta as its most capable model built for agentic tasks.
Users interact with Muse through a dedicated app or directly via WhatsApp. The agent can send emails, book travel, fill out forms, and continue working after a user closes the app, returning when it requires approval before completing a sensitive action such as sending a message or completing a purchase.
For payments, Muse integrates with Link, a product from Stripe, using single-use virtual card numbers to process transactions. Meta says Muse is the first AI agent covered by Link's purchase protections, which include coverage for damaged or lost items, price drop adjustments, and a return guarantee on eligible purchases. Support for Shop Pay and 1Password is described as coming soon.
Meta says Muse does not share user conversations or VM data with its advertising systems, and users can opt out of having their interactions used to train Meta's AI models. Later this year, the company plans to introduce Muse Confidential VM, in which user data and conversations are encrypted with a key held only by the user.
Muse is free for most features, with subscription plans available for additional usage. No pricing details were disclosed in the announcement.
