Hyster-Yale Inc. (NYSE: HY) announced a restructuring plan that will reduce its global workforce by approximately 575 employees across manufacturing and staff functions.
The Cleveland-based materials handling equipment manufacturer said the workforce reduction addresses current mismatches in shipping and booking rates amid challenging market conditions, particularly in the industrial segment.
The restructuring is expected to result in a one-time pre-tax charge of approximately $21 million in the fourth quarter of 2025. The company projects the action will generate $40 million to $45 million in annualized cost savings beginning in the first quarter of 2026.
These cost reduction measures are in addition to previously announced restructuring initiatives, according to the company's statement. The actions aim to reduce the company's break-even point to align with current low industry volumes.
Hyster-Yale said the restructuring positions the company for enhanced profitability when industry volumes recover, which it anticipates will occur in mid-2026.
The company designs, engineers, manufactures and services lift trucks, aftermarket parts and technology solutions marketed under the Hyster, Yale, Maximal and Nuvera brand names. Its subsidiary Bolzoni S.p.A. produces attachments, forks and lift tables.
