HSBC Holdings PLC appointed Brendan Nelson as group chair, the bank announced.
Nelson joined HSBC's board in 2023 and has served as interim chair since October. He previously worked at KPMG and served on the boards of BP PLC and Royal Bank of Scotland.
The bank said Nelson was selected following "a robust process that considered both internal and external candidates."
Nelson succeeds Mark Tucker, who stepped down at the end of September to become chair of Hong Kong-based insurer AIA Group Ltd.
"Since assuming the role of interim group chair, Brendan has demonstrated his excellent leadership capabilities backed by his strong banking and governing credentials," said Ann Godbehere, HSBC's senior independent director.
Nelson will continue as chairman of the group audit committee until the publication of 2025 results in February 2026, according to the bank's statement.
