Globalstar Inc. (NASDAQ: GSAT) announced plans to bring into use its HIBLEO-XL-1 satellite system filing as part of expanding its mobile satellite connectivity capabilities.
The HIBLEO-XL-1 system, filed through France, includes additional satellites, orbital shells and frequency bands beyond Globalstar's current L, S and C-band frequencies. The system will incorporate additional mobile satellite service bands for uplink and downlink communications as well as additional feeder-link spectrum.
"We believe that bringing HIBLEO-XL-1 into use provides Globalstar with significant optionality as the Company grows as a major provider of connectivity in the global space economy that is expected to reach $1.8 trillion by 2035," said Dr. Paul Jacobs, Globalstar CEO.
Globalstar has operated its current mobile satellite system since 2000 using Big Low Earth Orbit frequency bands. In November 2024, the company announced a $1.5 billion investment in a third-generation mobile satellite system called C-3, which will include 48 additional satellites and approximately 90 new ground station antennas globally.
The C-3 system will operate over the same licensed Big LEO frequency bands, altitude and inclination as Globalstar's current system. The company stated that C-3's higher power downlink capabilities are expected to improve user experience for accessing Globalstar communications services.
The information was disclosed in a company press release statement.
