Gilat Satellite Networks Ltd. (NASDAQ: GILT) announced it successfully demonstrated 3GPP-compliant 5G Non-Terrestrial Network connectivity over a Geostationary Earth Orbit satellite.

The demonstration validated end-to-end 5G NTN services over existing GEO satellite infrastructure, confirming key capabilities including 5G NTN VSAT and Hub technologies, latency compensation and protocol optimizations. The company said the test addressed primary technical challenges of 5G NTN over GEO satellites.

The milestone demonstrates how 5G NTN can complement terrestrial networks by providing connectivity where traditional cellular coverage is unavailable, according to the company's press release statement.

"Our vision is to implement 3GPP standards for GEO, MEO and LEO orbits," said Aharon Mullokandov, Chief R&D Officer at Gilat. "Satellite operators and mobile network operators will be able to expand coverage, improve resilience, and accelerate service deployment."

Gilat stated it continues to advance its 5G NTN roadmap with additional trials, ecosystem partnerships, and commercial solutions across GEO and non-GEO satellite environments.

The Israel-based satellite networking technology company has operated for over 35 years and trades on both NASDAQ and Tel Aviv Stock Exchange under the ticker GILT.
