Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX) announced it has acquired Toronto-based BioConnect, a biometric authentication solutions company. The acquisition was disclosed in a press release from the Zeeland, Michigan-based technology company.
BioConnect provides enterprise biometric authentication and security platforms that verify identity across physical, IoT and digital applications. The company serves over 1,500 customers across regulated industries including data storage, healthcare, financial services, education, and manufacturing. Eight of the top 10 US-headquartered data centers use BioConnect's systems.
The acquisition adds to Gentex's existing biometric capabilities, which include EyeLock iris biometric technology obtained through the purchase of VOXX International earlier this year. BioConnect founder and CEO Rob Douglas will lead the combined Security & Access Control team that includes both BioConnect and EyeLock personnel.
"Biometric technology is playing an increasingly important role in the industries in which we operate, including automotive, aerospace, medical, and smart home," said Neil Boehm, Gentex's chief operations officer and chief technology officer. "This acquisition not only provides Gentex with a strong foothold in the security and access control industry, but also the expertise to continue developing advanced biometric solutions for the industries we currently serve."
Gentex supplies electro-optical products to automotive, aerospace, fire protection, and medical industries. The company has expanded its capabilities into vision systems, sensing, AI development, biometrics, and smart technologies.
BioConnect was established in 2010 and specializes in holistic security systems for IT data centers. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
