Facebook 'Likes' Mobile Payment Operators

Facebook? More like "Pay"-book.

According to reports from the Mobile World Congress, Facebook (NYSE: FB)(Nasdaq: FB) may team up with mobile operators on payments in an effort to gain back some of the payment losses to peers Apple (Nasdaq: AAPL) and Google (Nasdaq: GOOG).

Aiming to capitalize further on its expansive user-base, Facebook said its operators would be able to cash-in on millions of mobile users through the purchases of games and music via the social networking giant.

Carriers like Verizon (NYSE: VZ) and AT&T (NYSE: T) will certainly welcome the move. In the past, social media has tried to appeal directly to users, eschewing operators, eating up bandwidth, and competing with telecoms own products in the process.
