Enanta Pharmaceuticals CFO Paul Mellett passes

Enanta Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENTA) announced the death of Chief Financial and Administrative Officer Paul J. Mellett Jr., who served the company for more than two decades.

Mellett joined Enanta in September 2003 and established the company's finance department. He led the biotechnology company's initial public offering in 2013 and played a role in advancing early partnerships, including a 2006 research and development collaboration with Abbott, now AbbVie.

"Since joining the Company more than two decades ago, Paul's leadership and generosity of spirit have been at the core of Enanta," said Jay R. Luly, President and Chief Executive Officer of Enanta Pharmaceuticals.

The collaboration with AbbVie resulted in the commercialization of VIEKIRA PAK and MAVYRET/MAVIRET, medications for treating chronic hepatitis C virus infection that the company states have treated more than one million patients globally.

Mellett's career in finance spanned nearly 50 years. Before Enanta, he served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer at Essential Therapeutics and held CFO positions at GelTex Pharmaceuticals and Marshall Contractors. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Audit Partner at Deloitte & Touche LLP.

He graduated from Boston College and served on the board of Xaverian Brothers High School for 12 years. Mellett also served as a board member for Norwood Hospital and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Boston.

As previously announced, Harry R. Trout III and Kathleen S. Capps have been appointed as the company's interim principal financial officer and principal accounting officer, respectively.

Enanta focuses on discovering and developing small molecule drugs for virology and immunology indications, with clinical programs targeting respiratory syncytial virus and inflammatory diseases.
