BlackSky Technology Inc. (NYSE: BKSY) announced it won a competitive, multimillion-dollar contract with an international defense customer for satellite imagery and analytics services extending through 2029.

The agreement includes immediate subscription-based access to the company's Gen-3 and Gen-2 satellite services, along with ground segment modernization services. The customer will receive guaranteed tasking capacity for persistent monitoring over designated areas of interest through BlackSky's Assured services.

BlackSky will upgrade the customer's existing ground station and mission operations center with direct-downlink and uplink communications capabilities. The modernization aims to provide faster, locally controlled intelligence processing.

The contract utilizes BlackSky's Spectra AI-enabled tasking and analytics platform, which processes data from Gen-3 and Gen-2 satellites to detect, identify and classify objects including vehicles, aircraft and vessels without human intervention.

"This contract illustrates how BlackSky's reliable fully integrated real-time, commercial space-based intelligence services can be used as an important tool for modern defense and intelligence organizations engaged across the full spectrum of grey-zone conflicts worldwide," said Brian O'Toole, BlackSky CEO.

The Herndon, Virginia-based company operates a commercial satellite constellation and develops space-based intelligence software. BlackSky's services combine satellite imagery with analytics for monitoring strategic locations and events.

The contract represents BlackSky's continued expansion with international defense customers, according to the press release statement.
