Alamar Biosciences launches national Alzheimer's proteomics study

Alamar Biosciences (Nasdaq: ALMR) announced a partnership with researchers at Washington University in St. Louis, the University of Wisconsin, and Indiana University to conduct a national-scale proteomics study focused on Alzheimer's disease and related dementias.

The project will profile approximately 21,000 plasma samples collected from 10,000 Alzheimer's Disease Research Center participants across the United States using Alamar's NULISAseq Neuro 220 panel, which includes a newly added eMTBR-Tau assay for blood-based measurement of tau tangle burden alongside neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation biomarkers.

The initiative is co-led by Sarah Biber, PhD, at Washington University in St. Louis; Sterling Johnson, PhD, at the University of Wisconsin; and Tatiana Foroud, PhD, director of the National Centralized Repository for Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias at Indiana University. Samples are stored at that repository, providing centralized national infrastructure for coordinated access.

The project is part of the Consortium for Clarity in ADRD Research Through Imaging portfolio. Funding and support have come from the Alzheimer's Association, the Robertson Foundation, an anonymous foundation, and the Alzheimer's Disease Data Initiative.

All data generated will be made publicly available and linked to National Alzheimer's Coordinating Center IDs, allowing researchers to connect proteomic profiles with existing longitudinal clinical, cognitive, neuroimaging, genetic, and neuropathology data. A planned national data challenge will invite research teams to develop analytical methods using the dataset.

"By generating an open, national-scale resource and engaging leading AI and computational teams, we also hope to accelerate discovery and create tools that ultimately improve diagnosis, treatment development, and patient care," said Johnson in a statement based on the press release.
