AeroVironment Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) announced three new variants of its Switchblade loitering munition systems: the Switchblade 600 Block 2, Switchblade 400, and Switchblade 300 Block 20 with explosively formed penetrator payload.
The Switchblade 600 Block 2 features enhanced artificial intelligence and machine learning capabilities, automatic target recognition, and encrypted GPS. The system offers 20% longer endurance and over 100 kilometers handoff range compared to previous versions, according to the company's press release.
The new Switchblade 400 weighs under 40 pounds and includes rocket-assisted takeoff capability. The system is designed for single-soldier operation and can be deployed in under five minutes to target armored vehicles.
The Switchblade 300 Block 20 incorporates a modular payload bay supporting an explosively formed penetrator warhead. Weighing 7.2 pounds, the system can be deployed by a single operator in less than two minutes and features an enhanced sensor suite and touchscreen interface.
All three systems utilize Modular Open Systems Approach standards and integrate with command and control platforms including ATAK and Nett Warrior software.
AeroVironment has increased production of its Switchblade 600 systems from 40 to 240 units per month over the past year. The company expects to reach production capacity of more than 1,200 units per month following investments in its California facility and the opening of a new manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah.
The company stated it has delivered thousands of Switchblade systems over 13 years, with hundreds of combat engagements recorded. The systems have been used by U.S. forces and Ukrainian military units.
