Teleflex study links catheter technology to 70% lower CLABSI risk

Teleflex Incorporated (NYSE: TFX) announced the publication of a peer-reviewed study in the American Journal of Infection Control showing that central venous catheters (CVCs) protected with Arrowg+ard™ Technology were associated with a 70% lower hazard of central line-associated bloodstream infections (CLABSIs) compared with plain, non-impregnated catheters over a 30-day period.

The prospective multinational study enrolled 1,750 critically ill patients across six hospitals in four countries. The hazard ratio was 0.297 (95% CI 0.134–0.658; p=0.003). Additional findings included no CLABSI events during the first five catheter days among patients receiving chlorhexidine/silver sulfadiazine (CH/SSD) CVCs, compared with 13 events in the plain CVC group (p=.026). Mortality was also lower in the CH/SSD group at 18.4% versus 28.3% in the plain CVC group (p<.001). The protective association was observed despite longer average catheter dwell times in the CH/SSD group (11.56 days vs. 7.43 days; p<.001).

The study builds on a previously published 2025 multinational prospective cohort study that reported a 70.5% reduction in overall CLABSI incidence among patients receiving Arrowg+ard Blue™ or Arrowg+ard Blue Plus™ CVCs compared with plain CVCs. The latest analysis focused on time-to-infection rather than overall incidence.

International infection prevention guidelines recommend considering antimicrobial or antiseptic-impregnated CVCs in patients or settings where CLABSI rates remain elevated despite standard prevention practices.
