Shineco subsidiary achieves mass production of high-purity phospholipids

Shineco Inc. (NASDAQ: SISI) announced that its subsidiary Fuzhou Meidashan Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has achieved large-scale production of high-purity soybean phospholipids using proprietary APCC-UF pure physical extraction technology.

The technology uses 70-80% pure water as solvent and fresh soybean colloid as raw material, eliminating chemical solvents through large-column chromatography combined with ultrafiltration membrane technology. Test reports show the lyophilized product contains 97.8% total phospholipid content and 50.2% phosphatidylcholine content, with no detectable solvent residues or heavy metals.

The company has completed validation on a thousand-ton production line with plans to expand to ten-thousand-ton capacity. Shineco states the single-batch yield is higher while production costs are reduced compared to traditional pure physical methods.

Traditional phospholipid extraction has relied on chemical solvent methods or pure physical methods used by companies including Avanti in the US, Lipoid in Germany, and NOF in Japan. The company notes that while pure physical techniques yield high-purity products, their complexity and high costs have limited them to laboratory-scale production.

The phospholipid products are intended for pharmaceutical intermediates, lipid materials for mRNA vaccines, nutritional supplements, and skincare applications. The global pharmaceutical phospholipid market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of over 15% in the next five years, according to the press release.

Shineco develops induced pluripotent stem cell technology platforms and extracellular vesicle-derived products. The company is based in Beijing.
