Rockwell Automation Inc. (NYSE: ROK) announced strategic innovations to its Manufacturing Execution System portfolio focused on flexibility, scalability and resiliency, according to a company press release.

The Milwaukee-based industrial automation company introduced an elastic MES portfolio described as a cloud-native, interoperable platform designed to unify operations across operational technology and information technology systems. The modular approach allows manufacturers to scale capabilities as needed.

According to Rockwell's 2025 State of Smart Manufacturing Report, 21% of manufacturing leaders cite integration challenges as a top internal obstacle. The company's elastic MES platform aims to address these barriers through a unified system connecting materials, inventory, production and tooling operations.

"Our elastic MES strategy and investments drive a fundamental shift in how manufacturers connect and optimize their operations," said Anthony Murphy, vice president of product management at Rockwell Automation. "DIY and disparate systems increase cost, risk and complexity."

The MES portfolio includes capabilities tailored for discrete, hybrid, and regulated industries with embedded artificial intelligence technology. The platform offers multi-tenant Software as a Service environment and flexible deployment options from cloud-only to hybrid configurations.

David Rudofsky, chief financial officer at Wonton Food Inc., stated that "Plex gives us flexibility to grow our digital infrastructure at our own pace" and noted simplified compliance for SQF and customer audits.

The company cited examples of manufacturers implementing the solutions, including a stationery and shaver manufacturer using Plex MES for real-time production visibility, a baking mix manufacturer automating work-in-process management, and a pharmaceutical developer implementing FactoryTalk PharmaSuite.

Rockwell Automation employs approximately 26,000 people and operates in more than 100 countries as of fiscal year end 2025.
