Progressive Insurance (NYSE: PGR) announced the launch of a new pet insurance product for cats and dogs, underwritten directly by the company and administered by Companion Protect.
The insurance policies cost an average of $47 per month, with premiums varying based on pet age, breed, and other characteristics. Coverage includes accident and illness plans covering emergency care, surgical procedures, and medications. Pet owners can add a wellness endorsement for routine care such as vaccinations and annual exams.
"At Progressive, we share the love and enthusiasm people have for their pets and we're excited to continue to deliver on our commitment to helping people protect what matters most to them with this new offering," said Drew Purcell, Progressive Pet Insurance Business Leader.
The product offers customizable coverage options with multiple deductible choices, reimbursement amounts, and annual limits. Customers can manage policies and file claims online, with access to licensed veterinary experts through Companion Protect's CARE team.
Discounts are available for multi-pet policyholders, existing Progressive customers, and those adding wellness coverage to their accident and illness plans.
Progressive Pet Insurance is currently available in 43 states and Washington D.C., with nationwide availability expected in 2026. The company will continue operating its existing pet insurance program administered by Pets Best for current policyholders.
Progressive has offered pet insurance for more than 15 years through its Pets Best program and was the first auto insurer to provide pet injury coverage on personal auto policies with collision insurance.
