OpenAI to acquire Pierre Computer Company and its developer tools

November 4, 2026 9:33 AM EST

OpenAI announced plans to acquire Pierre Computer Company, Inc. ("Pierre"), the developer behind Code Storage and a set of open-source tools including Trees, Diffs, and Highlights, according to a statement from OpenAI.

Pierre's Trees and Diffs libraries are already integrated into OpenAI's Codex application, where they allow developers to navigate files and review code changes. Pierre also offers Highlights, a syntax highlighter, and Code Storage, a service that allows applications to store code and track its history using Git.

OpenAI said it intends to integrate Pierre's tools and Code Storage functionality into Codex following the close of the deal. Existing Code Storage customers will be able to continue using the service during the transition period.

The company said Pierre's open-source projects will remain open-source and that OpenAI will continue contributing to them after the acquisition closes.

Earlier this week, OpenAI also disclosed Pando, an in-house source control backend developed for use by its engineers and coding agents.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Until closing, OpenAI and Pierre will operate as separate and independent companies. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
