OPAL Fuels begins operations at New Jersey renewable gas facility

OPAL Fuels Inc. (NASDAQ: OPAL), South Jersey Industries, and Atlantic County Utilities Authority announced the commercial operation of a renewable natural gas facility in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey.

The facility, located at ACUA's solid waste landfill, captures and processes landfill gas into renewable natural gas. The project represents the first delivery of RNG into the pipeline system of South Jersey Gas, a subsidiary of SJI.

The facility has a nameplate capacity of 2,500 SCFM of landfill gas and is expected to produce more than 650,000 MMBtu or over 4.6 million gasoline gallon equivalent per year of RNG, according to the company statement.

"The launch of this facility marks an important milestone in OPAL Fuels' mission of turning waste into clean, domestic energy," said Adam Comora, Co-Chief Executive Officer of OPAL Fuels.

The RNG project represents the first collaboration between OPAL Fuels and SJI as part of their previously announced 50/50 joint venture to develop, construct, own and operate RNG facilities. The companies plan a second collaboration with the Burlington RNG Facility in Florence Township, New Jersey.

ACUA operates a 360-acre Environmental Park in Egg Harbor Township that includes the landfill where the RNG facility is located. The authority provides waste and recycling collection services for 24 municipalities across Atlantic, Cape May and Cumberland Counties.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony at the facility is scheduled for October 2025.
