NetApp integrates ONTAP data with AWS AI services through S3 access points

December 2, 2025 1:31 PM EST

NetApp (NASDAQ: NTAP) announced a new capability that connects Amazon Web Services AI and analytics services directly with NetApp data stored both in cloud and on-premises environments. The integration uses Amazon S3 Access Points for Amazon FSx for NetApp ONTAP to enable file data access via the S3 API while keeping data in its original location.

The feature allows FSx for ONTAP-resident file data to be accessed by AWS's AI, machine learning, and analytics services without requiring data movement. Customers can connect S3-based AWS services and applications to FSx for ONTAP file systems as if they were S3 buckets, according to the company's press release statement.

"By connecting FSx for ONTAP data natively to AWS's wide range of AI, ML, and analytics services, the new integration with Amazon S3 Access Points unleashes the potential to connect to more than 100 exabytes of enterprise data stored on NetApp systems," said Pravjit Tiwana, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Cloud Storage and Services at NetApp.

The technology enables enterprises to use file data stored in FSx for ONTAP with artificial intelligence, machine learning, serverless compute, and analytics services that work with S3. Built-in replication capabilities in ONTAP allow data mobilization across hybrid cloud environments, connecting FSx for ONTAP customers to their on-premises data.

NetApp will demonstrate the technology at AWS re:Invent in Las Vegas from December 1-5, 2025. The company describes itself as the only provider with a first-party data storage service natively built on AWS.
