Infleqtion supports Japan's first neutral-atom quantum computer

Infleqtion (NYSE: INFQ), a quantum computing company based in Louisville, Colorado, has contributed its quantum processing unit to a research project in Japan that resulted in what is described as the country's first operational full-stack neutral-atom quantum computer, according to a press release from the company.
The system, named "Shunkai," was developed in collaboration with a research team led by Professor Kenji Ohmori at the Institute for Molecular Science, part of Japan's National Institutes of Natural Sciences. Infleqtion also states it was the only foreign quantum partner selected by the Japan Science and Technology Agency for its Quantum Moonshot program.
The system is initially expected to operate with approximately 50 qubits, with plans to scale to around 500 qubits as development progresses.
As part of a new phase of the project that began in April 2026, the research team will focus on system integration, stability, and scalability. The stated goal is to develop a neutral-atom fault-tolerant quantum computer with up to 10,000 physical qubits, including quantum error detection and correction capabilities. The system is also expected to be made available to external users from academia and industry.
"Bringing a full-stack quantum system into production operation is a meaningful step toward fault-tolerant quantum computing," said Pranav Gokhale, Chief Technology Officer at Infleqtion.
