Coherent expands optical line system portfolio for AI datacenter links

Coherent Corp. (NYSE: OHR) announced the expansion of its Pluggable Optical Line System (POLS) portfolio with a full C-band, high-power variable-gain amplifier optical line system housed in a compact QSFP form factor, according to a company press release.

The product is designed for 800G ZR/ZR+ digital coherent optics and supports up to 32 DWDM wavelengths over a single fiber pair, enabling up to 25.6 Tbps of data traffic across links ranging from 2 km to 200 km.

The system integrates optical transport functions into QSFP modules that plug into standard transceiver slots. Key features include 21 dBm output power, variable gain, autonomous plug-and-play operation, and auto-provisioning for link configuration and laser safety. The product uses dual-chip micropump lasers and supports both fixed wavelength and colorless MUX/DMUX options.

Madhu Krishnaswamy, Senior Vice President of the Telecom Transport Business Unit at Coherent, said the expansion "represents another important step toward more automated, open, and high-capacity optical networks for the AI era."

The enhanced POLS is generally available and shipping in high volume. Coherent offers versions supporting 400G and 800G ZR and ZR+ applications with either SFF-8636 or CMIS 4.0 memory maps. The company is demonstrating the product at ECOC 2026, Booth #2100.
